Wedding Bells

Starting late last night (midnight) our 3 year old indoor cat started sneezing continously. We put her in another room b/c it was keeping us up, and she didn't even try to get back into our room as she usually does. Today, she's at it again and seems to only stop when she's sleeping.

She's eating/drinking as normal, and came to play in her cat nip this morning. She's not avoiding us.

Any suggestions on what it might be? How we can help her b/c it seems to be bothering her as well?

Also, three nights ago my sister was watching our baby and our cat started hissing at her continously until she put her in another room. My sister has been attacked by a cat before, when the cat was responding to a threat outside the window, so is extra afraid. She's been around the cat many other times with no reaction.

Crazy! Is it sneezing or hiccuping of some sort?

My first instinct would be to say that something she smells is bothering her. One of my cats sneezes often and has cat asthma...things like febreeze, incense, sented candles, strong perfumes and such bother him. I don't use Febreeze anymore because of that...if we sprayed something with it and Willie laid on it he would be sneezing like crazy. Maybe it's something for you to consider?

Has your kitty come into contact with any other cats recently? I know we got a kitten and he sneezed constantly and we found out he has feline herpes. I am not even overly sure what it is but it definitely made him sneeze a lot. He got his shots though and he has been fine since.

However, if your cat has all its shots up to date and hasn't been around other cats lately, it could be that she is having an allergic reaction to something or maybe something is causing her pain in her nasal passages causing her to sneeze and be a grouch.

I would take her to the vet to make sure everything is okay.

Cats can get upper respiratory disease(may be the same as the Herpes pp is talking about). As it is a virus, cats have it their entire lives and it can flare up in times of stress. Lots of cats from the shelter aquired it there as it spreads like wildfire.

I do have a cat that sneezes in fits and has some mucous come out of her nose. As it is not steady or often the vet thinks she may have a slight allergy that bothers her. Could be this too.
